What to pack in a beach bag

We are well into our summer and that means trips to the beach! Before you head out for a day of sun and sand, it’s important to make sure you have everything you need to have a fun and stress-free day. Here’s a list of must-haves to pack in your beach bag:

Sunscreen, zinc sticks and lip balm with SPF: Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by bringing a bottle of SPF 30 or higher. Apply before you head off to the beach to allow it to absorb. Don’t forget to apply it every two hours or after swimming, and zinc under eyes, over the cheeks and nose. Remember to take a break from the sun during the most intense sun hours. Keep the zink sticks cool (see below for packing a cooler bag).

Drybag: for those belongings you need to take with you into the water (e.g. if on a public beach and you can’t supervise your belongings) – such as keys, wallet, phone.

Beach Towels: (a given) Pack a few towels to for drying off after a dip in the ocean or pool. A towel that doubles as a long hoodie is handy to get changed under.

Beach Mat: A good one is one where the sand falls through the mat and won’t come back up. e.g. these ones: Quicksand Mat.

First Aid Kit.

Hats and sunglasses: The sun is strong and face (and even eyes) get easily burnt by the sun and the reflection in the sand and water.

Water and snacks: Stay hydrated and satisfied by packing a few bottles of water and some snacks like granola bars or fruit – ice bricks in a cooler bag will keep your food (and sun cream/zink sticks) fresh.

Beach games: Bring along some fun beach games like frisbee, kite, beach golf, or KUBB to keep everyone entertained.

Swimmers, rashies, goggles and spare clothes: may be a given – but spare clothes (especially if you have young ones) might be a good idea. A loose shirt is a great cover once out of the rashie.

Waxed Canvas Beach bag: The beach bag you use for your beach adventure should be sturdy and spacious bag to hold all of your beach essentials. Look for one with multiple pockets to keep everything organised.

A bag for collecting your litter. As you don’t want to leave anything but footprints on the beach.

Beach chairs and umbrella: (may not fit in your bag, but important nonetheless) these will provide a comfortable place to sit and some much-needed shade.
